Dana School Day Start and End Times

Dana has a number of different bell schedules for on-campus instruction depending on the type of school day (stack vs block period days) and the dismissal time (minimum days, shortened days, and regular dismissal days).

For most weeks during the school year, Dana dismisses at 2:45pm and has a stacked period schedule on Mondays (all periods) with a block period schedule Tuesday-Friday (Periods 2/4/6 on Tues/Thurs; Periods 1/3/5 on Wed/Fri). All bell schedules, to include our first week of school schedules, can be found on the Dana website via the Bell Schedules page.

Pick up and drop off at Dana

School begins at 8:30 a.m.  Students should not arrive at school prior to 8:15 a.m. and can enter through any gates onto the campus. There is no supervision prior to 8:15 a.m.

During regular school days, school dismisses at 2:45 p.m. and blacktop/parking lot supervision is provided until 3:00 p.m. During shortened school days, school dismisses at 1:45pm and blacktop/parking lot supervision is provided until 2:00 p.m. During minimum days, school dismisses at 11:45 a.m. and blacktop/parking lot supervision is provided until 12:00 p.m.

Please note that parking in red zones, making illegal U-turns, or advising your child to jaywalk across 135th Street is a danger to all Dana students. Remember that our behavior on the road can be either a positive or a negative lesson to students. Please be courteous and careful when dropping off or picking up your child at school each day and refrain from using handheld wireless devices while driving. Due to the high volume of traffic at the start and end of the school day, it is recommended that families plan time accordingly. Cars may not park in any red zone.

School supply list information

Students will receive information about school supplies from their team of teachers during the first week of school. Until then, all students should simply arrive at school with something to write with and something to write on. 

All 6th graders will be provided a school planner from their Homeroom teacher during the first week of school, courtesy of the Dana PTSA. While optional, 7th and 8th graders will have an opportunity to purchase a planner from the PTSA from their website for $15. We are grateful for the generosity and support from Erin Condren for once again being the supplier and providing us with generous discounts for these amazing items!

We are currently working with a new P.E. Uniform vendor with the hope that families will be able to purchase new P.E. uniforms online and receive those items from their HR/Pod teacher. Students will not be expected to bring P.E. uniforms to school or to dress out for P.E. until uniforms are available to all of our families. Until then, students will be expected to wear or bring clothes appropriate for exercise for their initial P.E. classes.

Back-to-School Night

To mitigate large in-person gatherings where possible, Dana will once again host this year’s Back to School Night (BTSN) virtually. Please save the date on your calendar for September 23rd between 6:00-7:00pm. The first part of the night will kick off in the Zoom classroom of your child’s Pod teacher, and will include a Principal’s welcome, message from our friends at WEF and the Dana PTSA, and an overview of Pod and team expectations. The second half of the night will provide families an opportunity for a ‘Meet & Greet” via zoom with your child’s other teachers.
